Its made of a hard wood. The handles do conform to your hands. It does have a good weight so it does evenly spread my mix when i make cookies.
I do not have a problem with cookies or pie crusts sticking to the roller.
The downsides of this roller are the roller is not thick enough to get my fingers under the roller when rolling. Also try not to get any batter in-between the handle and the roller. There is a washer in there and its quite hard to clean out by hand washing.
