I have been trying to find some carrots that are a bit bigger to use with these, since the shapes cut from average carrots tend to be clipped at the corners. They're still cute, though, and I can use them on plenty of other things, such as pickled beets or mango slices. I'd recommend hand washing and drying right away. I haven't had problems with rust yet, but in my experience, most cookie cutter-like tools don't do well if exposed to water for very long. September 2011 update: I previously mentioned these may be too big to use on some vegetables but figured out if you slice a vegetable, such as a carrot, at an angle, you'll have a bigger surface. I also loved the idea that I could use them for multiple purposes! I have never seen anything like these in stores. When I received the package, I must admit I was a little surprised to see the product. First of all, I realized that I misread the description and there were actually TWO mats in the pack instead of the one I was expecting. :) Then, I unrolled the mats and kind of stared at them, wondering how they would hold up to the grilling process. I usually use the cheap dollar-store foil trays, but I have learned that the food sticks (and occasionally catches on fire!). So my family headed over to the park for a picnic and I brought along some hot dogs and chicken to try out the mats. I started up the charcoal, let the flames die down, and put the mats on the grill with the chicken and hot dogs directly on top. The food cooked up well and we ate the hot dogs and warmed buns while awaiting the chicken. Finally, to clean up, I took the mats off the grill (they weren't that hot), put them on the side ledge of the grill, poured a little water on them with a water bottle and wiped them clean with a few paper towels! All of the grease and grime wiped off! Afterwards I brought home the mats and washed them with hot soapy water as I did the dishes and let them air dry. They looked brand new again! I kept the box so I rolled them up and put them back in. They hardly take up any space in my cabinet, which is a big plus! I gave them 5 stars because they performed exactly as advertised...at least the grilling part. I still have to try them for baking, but I figure they'll be great based on my grilling experience! Great product! The rack is powder-coated and folds up. These racks make a surprisingly good hostess gift, or "stocking stuffer" or Yankee Swap gift. I spent an afternoon once trying to find one of these and sometimes, they can be elusive in big box stores. If you are stuck for a gift for someone, this is a very good choice if they are an enthusiastic baker or if they have school-aged kids. Cupcakes are just as popular with moms and dads as chocolate chip cookies, and this is a great way to present them for parties or just to put them on the counter. There is enough room to stack the cupcakes while keeping the icing tops from bumping into each other. Best of all, after the cupcakes are gone, this can fit flat on the side of a cabinet or in a drawer where it won't take up space. With my two mats, I can bake a large batch of cookies without waiting (I certainly don't want to go back to the old methods for some of them!). I also use it to knead bread. I make a lot of bread, and it is always hard to avoid adding too much flour to stop it sticking. Not with this mat. I think this might even be my favorite use for it! I had been using plastic Gladwear, Ziploc, and Rubbermaid containers, but had several problems with them: 1. Storing tomato sauce and then re-heating it in the container dyed them a weird shade of orange. 2. They are supposed to be microwaveable but I found that after a few months of normal use, they were useless - warped, funny colors, scratched, etc. 3. The plastic scratched easily, creating chanels where bacteria could grow - eww. 4. I've read multiple articles from multiple magazines quoting multiple studies about how microwaving plastics release toxic chemicals into your food. 5. After several months of use, they were beat and had to be recycled - recycling is, of course, better than throwing them in the trash, but the process of recycling creates pollution and not only that, I'd have to go out and buy more, spending more money, which was what I was trying to get away from. Good for the company, because they got more money, bad for me, the customer. BUT this Pyrex set is GREAT! 7 containers, 7 lids. LOVE IT!!! 1. I can reheat food in the microwave (without the plastic lid) and don't have to worry about chemicals leaking in to my food. 2. They do great in the freezer - we use one of the small ones to hold ground coffee - we buy beans and ground several days worth at once, then pop the grounds in the small container and into the freezer. 3. It's Pyrex, so it's no big deal when my daughter accidently drops one helping me put the dishes away. 4. I can use them to hold raw marrinating meat, chicken, or fish without having to worry about them holding on to the bacteria. 5. They are dishwasher safe, just put the lids on the top rack only, and they come out perfect, very smooth surface so they are easy to wash. 6. I've read other reviews saying that they look nice too, so they can go from fridge or oven (7. Oh yeah, they are oven-safe too) to table as serving dishes - this is true, if we ever had a dinner party, I would't think twice about using them as serving dishes. 8. They are simple, which I love, because I won't have to worry about them clashing with anything (we are a young family so we have hodge-podge of kitchen stuff anyway so it doesn't matter right now). 9. They "nest" together very nicely - we live in a small apt with limited kitchen storage, but these containers, one stacked up inside the other, with the lids separating the containers, don't take up any more space than my old plastic junk. I use these ALL THE TIME, I can't say enough good things about them. All of mine are "in commision" right now, except for one which is in the dishwasher. My one complaint is a set of 7 lids and 7 containers is not enough, I need another set, LOL. :-) (I also have the loaf pan w/ lid - very nice, small, but nice, good addition to my set) Highly recommend! :-) Pyrex 6022369 Storage 14-Piece Round Set, Clear with Blue Lids </div>
