Storing tomato sauce and then re-heating it in the container dyed them a weird shade of orange.<br/><br /><br/><br />2. They are supposed to be microwaveable but I found that after a few months of normal use, they were useless - warped, funny colors, scratched, etc.<br/><br /><br/><br />3. The plastic scratched easily, creating chanels where bacteria could grow - eww.<br/><br /><br/><br />4. I've read multiple articles from multiple magazines quoting multiple studies about how microwaving plastics release toxic chemicals into your food.<br/><br /><br/><br />5. After several months of use, they were beat and had to be recycled - recycling is, of course, better than throwing them in the trash, but the process of recycling creates pollution and not only that, I'd have to go out and buy more, spending more money, which was what I was trying to get away from. Good for the company, because they got more money, bad for me, the customer.<br/><br /><br/><br />BUT this Pyrex set is GREAT! 7 containers, 7 lids. LOVE IT!!!<br/><br /><br/><br />1. I can reheat food in the microwave (without the plastic lid) and don't have to worry about chemicals leaking in to my food.<br/><br /><br/><br />2. They do great in the freezer - we use one of the small ones to hold ground coffee - we buy beans and ground several days worth at once, then pop the grounds in the small container and into the freezer.<br/><br /><br/><br />3. It's Pyrex, so it's no big deal when my daughter accidently drops one helping me put the dishes away.<br/><br /><br/><br />4. I can use them to hold raw marrinating meat, chicken, or fish without having to worry about them holding on to the bacteria.<br/><br /><br/><br />5. They are dishwasher safe, just put the lids on the top rack only, and they come out perfect, very smooth surface so they are easy to wash.<br/><br /><br/><br />6. I've read other reviews saying that they look nice too, so they can go from fridge or oven (7. Oh yeah, they are oven-safe too) to table as serving dishes - this is true, if we ever had a dinner party, I would't think twice about using them as serving dishes.<br/><br /><br/><br />8. They are simple, which I love, because I won't have to worry about them clashing with anything (we are a young family so we have hodge-podge of kitchen stuff anyway so it doesn't matter right now).<br/><br /><br/><br />9. They "nest" together very nicely - we live in a small apt with limited kitchen storage, but these containers, one stacked up inside the other, with the lids separating the containers, don't take up any more space than my old plastic junk.<br/><br /><br/><br />I use these ALL THE TIME, I can't say enough good things about them. All of mine are "in commision" right now, except for one which is in the dishwasher. It's made in the USA. It heats evenly and does a great job baking cookies, and other dough items....actually everything I've baked on it. Now my big beef with this product! I wouldn't feel comfortable putting any food DIRECTLY on this pan. Every time you wash it...(and I do follow recommended instructions and wash by hand)...everything turns a muddy gray...the sponge, the rinse water, your hands, everything. It's even hard to wash the gray off your hands after your done. I hate that so just won't let food actually cook on the surface. I'll always use parchment paper. Don't trust all that gray metallic colored residue that comes off in the washing process.<br/><br /><br/><br />Update Feb 20, 2012: I sent Nordic Ware an e-mail asking if they could explain the reason for all the gray metal color all over everything when I wash this pan. I told them I was very happy to buy a pan made in the USA and the product did perform flawlessly. I was just concerned about all the leaching of whatever it is. Never got a reply.<br/><br /><br/><br />Update Nov 19, 2012: After almost a year someone commented on my feedback suggesting I try contacting Nordic Ware customer service again. Thank you Bon!! I felt it only fair to try again since so many people love this sheet. Low and behold I received a quick reply. After explaining the situation, they e-mailed a form to fill out and mail in. I just got an e-mail saying they received it, reviewed the information, and they're sending me a new pan because THE GRAYING I'M EXPERIENCING IS NOT NORMAL. I don't know what happened to my original e-mails but based on THIS customer service experience with Nordic, I'd say it was a flawless experience. The service was friendly, quick, and fair. As soon as I receive the new sheet, I'll wash it, use it, wash it one more time and then report back. I suspect it will be a totally different experience this time....the way we do it here IN THE USA!!!!<br/><br /><br/><br />Update Dec 3, 2012: I have received the replacement half sheet. After washing several times I have no problem with gray residue. I'm convinced the first sheet I received was defective. This one is perfect...just what I expected from Nordic Ware. This is a company no one should ever be concerned about dealing with. They stand behind their products and, not only deliver quality products, but back them with quality customer service. One thing I discovered was that if you spoon the melted chocolate in to the lego brick mold, the chocolate will not go into the little "bumps"<br/><br /><br/><br />To solve this, I bought a wilton bottle with a tip on it, and piped the melted chocolate into each "bump", tapped the mold to settle the chocolate into the mold, and then proceded to fill each brick halfway. I wasted alot of chocolate filling the mold all the way on my first batch. I preferred slender bricks since I was just putting them on a cake.<br/><br /><br/><br />I put the mold in the fridge for ten minutes and then carefully peeled the candies out. They looked great! The minifigure mold was even easier to use---the candies came out perfect and shiny and looked like the real deal. My son and his friends were impressed with these candies as was I ! After the party, we used the molds to make jello jigglers and they came out perfect. Their design is attractive and basic, and you know the benefits of Pyrex. Before buying, you should consider stainless steel instead, as it is lighter (these are a bit heavy) and won't explode into sharp bits if you drop it on your tile floor. Also, bear in mind that these bowls are shallow, so if you are a messy mixer (or use an electric mixer or a fast whisk), you may end up slopping ingredients out over the side.<br/><br /><br/><br />Their wide shape and clear material lets them do double duty as informal serving bowls, which a true (high sided) mixing bowl doesn't do very well.<br/><br /><br/><br />In short, these are nice to have around for certain uses, but choose high-sided stainless steel bowls as your main set. <b><u>Pyrex Prepware 3-Piece Mixing Bowl Set, Clear</u> </b></div>

It looks unpolished, hazy, opaque, not clear, see-through glass. There are also scratch marks on the interior surface. The rest of the bowls in the set look fine.<br/><br /><br/><br />I immediately used Amazon's online returns/replacement option and obtained a free return shipping label. Then Amazon sent me an email, saying they would send a replacement set immediately, and to not return the defective bowl.<br/><br /><br/><br />Thank you for your great Customer Service, Amazon.com.<br/><br /><br/><br />Dunno about the quality of these bowls (now made in China, as most everything else, these days). Although the thick rim on the top of the bowls gives the appearance of sturdiness and strength, the bowls' themselves are very thin. Wish the walls were of thicker glass. I hope they don't break easily with regular daily use. I want to use them to melt chocolate over a sauce pan of heated water (placed on the counter, removed from the stove).<br/><br /><br/><br />11/25/08 Update<br/><br />Sorry 'bout my mistaken assumption, these bowls were made in USA. (see comments.)<br/><br /><br/><br />I finally received my replacement set yesterday. That only took nearly 2 weeks! And, this set has a couple bowls chipped along the rims. The same size bowl with the haziness has a bit of haze on the new one, too, but it is clearer than the first.<br/><br /><br/><br />Chips on the edges of the bowls. Anchor Hocking and/or Amazon really needs to figure out how to pack and ship these safely. There was no marring on the packaging. And not glass shards within the bowls or inner packing. So they must come from the factory like this.<br/><br /><br/><br />Oh well. I have replaced the 1 bowl. Stuck the hazy, chipped set under the sink, in case one of the 'good set' breaks.<br/><br /><br/><br />I do love this set! which I use every day. Every size imaginable, for prepping spices to mixing things up.<br/><br /><br/><br />Just wish they would do quality control at Anchor Hocking. $30 a set is not cheap, why should the quality be? <b><u>Anchor Hocking Glass Bowl Set - 10 pcs</u> </b></div>
