I was attracted to the idea of these mats because I thought they would make my life a lot easier when cooking out at the park barbecue grills. I also loved the idea that I could use them for multiple purposes! I have never seen anything like these in stores.
When I received the package, I must admit I was a little surprised to see the product. First of all, I realized that I misread the description and there were actually TWO mats in the pack instead of the one I was expecting. :) Then, I unrolled the mats and kind of stared at them, wondering how they would hold up to the grilling process. I usually use the cheap dollar-store foil trays, but I have learned that the food sticks (and occasionally catches on fire!).
So my family headed over to the park for a picnic and I brought along some hot dogs and chicken to try out the mats. I started up the charcoal, let the flames die down, and put the mats on the grill with the chicken and hot dogs directly on top. The food cooked up well and we ate the hot dogs and warmed buns while awaiting the chicken. Finally, to clean up, I took the mats off the grill (they weren't that hot), put them on the side ledge of the grill, poured a little water on them with a water bottle and wiped them clean with a few paper towels! All of the grease and grime wiped off! Afterwards I brought home the mats and washed them with hot soapy water as I did the dishes and let them air dry. They looked brand new again! I kept the box so I rolled them up and put them back in. They hardly take up any space in my cabinet, which is a big plus!
I gave them 5 stars because they performed exactly as advertised...at least the grilling part. I still have to try them for baking, but I figure they'll be great based on my grilling experience!
